Flow chart of the study: evaluation for confirmation of resistant hypertension. Among 3122 eligible patients, 3088 were enrolled in the study. These patients included 200 with uncontrolled hypertension who were taking three or more classes of antihypertensive medications, including a diuretic, and 44 with controlled hypertension who were taking four or more antihypertensive medications
